Music x Tea Ceremony Workshop

2:00 pm — 6:00 pm
Park Hotel Tokyo, Blue Room

Lars ‘TCF’ Holdhus and Dambi Kim are offering a music production workshop and Tea Ceremony for young producers. The participants are invited to join them in the Park Hotel where a number of possible futures will be revealed through an as-yet-to-be-revealed collective process between Dambi, TCF, the peer-group and algorithms. The workshop explores today’s forms of knowledge production and technical developments while producing a collaborative track. Here, notions of being a producer, musician, outsider or beginner are questioned through this cooperative approach to making, while raising questions about the production and distribution of not just tea, but also music in today’s post-material networked-society.

GOALS:

  • To remind young producers what it’s like to have fun making music and promote enjoyment in the development of the fields of interdisciplinary electronic and computer music.
  • To forget the burden of being an ‘outsider’, ‘newcomer’, or ‘beginner’ in the local and international music scene.
  • To look beyond the often restrictive boundaries of music distribution, music industry standards, and money.

HOW IT WORKS:

Fifteen participants will be selected to attend the workshop during INFRA on 22nd of August at Park Hotel Tokyo.

ABOUT THE WORKSHOP:

This hands on workshop will develop knowledge and technique while producing a collective track in a peer-group and field-recorded environment mediated by TCF. To better understand the link between community, technology and sound, participants will learn the basics of music production, collective thinking, field recordings, computer-networking and tea, while working together using computer-based technology as both an artistic medium and a fun tool.

HOW TO APPLY:

Music and/or tea enthusiasts are invited to apply.

No previous background in music is required to attend the workshop.

Participants need to bring their own computer with music software and headset to the workshop.

Participants will be selected after review of all applicants’ materials.
